Role: Art librarian in a large university offering a PhD in art history.

Task: Find current awareness resources for a new professor who specializes in Latin American art of the 19th and 20th centuries.  

Dear Professor Michaels,

It was a pleasure to speak with you earlier this week. As the liaison librarian for Art History, I always enjoy meeting our new professors and learning more about their specialties in order to better serve their research needs. Following our discussion of your difficulty in finding current awareness resources for your specialty, I wanted to reach out to you and provide you with the following list. Art Full Text:

Art Full Text is a database which provides users with access to full-text articles from over 320 periodicals dating from 1977 to the present. It also provides indexing and abstracts for over 660 periodicals dating back to 1972. Latin American art is among the multitude of topics covered. Users can choose to set alerts on topics and authors in which they are interested and will be notified when the new material becomes available. This service is available through the library.

Users of this service can set alerts on topics and authors in which they are interested and will be notified by the service when new material is published. It is not full-text.

Arts Journal is an arts and culture website. It is an aggregator which pulls news articles from over
200 English language periodicals. It is updated daily. Latin American art is among the subjects covered by the site.

The International Center for Art in the Americas at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston: Documents of 20^th Century Latin American and Latino Art:

This website offers primary sources on 20^th century Latin American art. The website regularly adds new materials to its collection of primary sources. The website also offers news related to the digitization project and provides information on publications stemming from the project.

Latin American Art:

This website provides information on Latin American art and artists, including current and upcoming exhibitions as well as current events in the Latin American art world. It also provides information on museums and galleries, which have collections of Latin American art.

The Latin American Arts Journal:

The Latin American Arts Journal is a website which has information on current events in the Latin American art world, including news articles and information on exhibitions.  

The Guggenheim Museums’ blogs:

The Guggenheim Museums’ blogs provide information on current and upcoming exhibitions of Latin American art connected with the Guggenheim, as well as articles written by their curators on Latin American art. The user should search by topic to narrow the results to their specific area of interest.

Unframed:

 Unframed is the blog of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, LACMA. LACMA possesses one of the major collections of Latin American art in the United States. Unframed regularly features news on the museum’s  current and upcoming exhibitions and recent acquisitions including, Latin American art. Users should search by topic.

Hyperallergic:

Hyperallergic is an arts and culture website. It features news articles about art and culture from around the world. Latin American art is among the subjects covered. Users should search by topic.

Art in the Americas:

Art in the Americas is an arts and culture website. Latin American art is among the featured topics. Users should search by topic, country or artists name to narrow results to their specific area of interest.
