Selfies of the Golden Age

While doing research for my research guide, I came across an article in the New York Times about the current exhibition "Dutch Self-Portraits: Selfies of the Golden Age" going on at the Mauritshuis from October 8, 2015 to January 3, 2016. The 27 paintings in the exhibition are all accompanied by mirrors, which give the viewer a look into how the artist would have created the works.

I love how the exhibition is making the art, which is hundreds of years old, relevant to the current audience. The Mauritshuis even encourages visitors to take selfies with the works, with a sign at the beginning of the exhibit that states: "Selfies are allowed. (No flash please)."

I thought this was great in relation to the discussions we've had all semester about how museums can draw in audience and different things they can do with their collection.

Happy Sunday!
